RESULTS THROUGHOUT BY: Lois Thomas Coorow/Latham took top spot on the
Cunninghams League Ladder over the weekend in the North Midlands with a 73-point
win over the Morawa Tigers. Played in cold dry conditions at the Morawa Greater
Sports Ground, Morawa won the toss a kicked with a slight southerly breeze.
Morawa enjoyed a 1-point advantage at quarter time, Daniel Rafferty and Ben
Turtley provided targets in the Tigers forward line, while Gavin Kerr was a
sizable target for the Coorow/Latham Magpies. The second quarter saw the big
Coorow/Latham side totally dominate the game, Damien Helliwell was inspirational
in the centre and Coorow/Latham were able to add a sizeable 52-points to their
tally while keeping the Tigers scoreless. Dongara were 32-point winners at
home to Carnamah/Perenjori last Saturday. In
a sunshine filled day, Dongara started in fine form with the first two
goals on the board. Strong defence from (Robert) Thompson, (Chad) Zimmermann and
(Jim) Phillips combined with good run in the centre from (Cameron) Wooton, (Mal)
McKenzie and (Anthony) Boccardo had Carnamah/Perenjori on the back foot at the
quarter siren even though they led by a minor 2-points. Carnamah/Perenjori
struggled to contain the growing confidence of the attacking Dongara Eagles
throughout the second quarter and found themselves behind by 28-points at the
major beak. A determined effort throughout the third quarter by
Carnamah/Perenjori Roo's held the Eagles to just 2-points for the quarter
however Dongara regained their legs in the final quarter and with (Anthony)
McShane booting 4.2 they held out for a desperately needed win. After Three Springs starting well to lead by 24-points at the first
break, Mingenew showed that they are
a serious Premiership contender dominating most of the remainder of the game to
run out winners by 46-points. |
