MINGENEW RETURN TO WINNING FORM

By: Lois Thomas

Mingenew answered its critics in style to run over Morawa 22-8 (140) to 10-9 (69) at Morawa last Sunday. Mingenew kicked 12-3 in the first half to Morawa's 1-3. New recruit Wesley Swift landed 6 goals in his inaugural game for Mingenew with good support from Bagley (4). Moreschi was vigorous in his role of defence with Green's agility proving unstoppable all over the ground. Morawa, still reeling from a depleted player's list, rallied in the last quarter to outscore Mingenew 7 goals to 4.

Coorow/Latham continued their winning form to outscore Dongara 17-13 (135) to 7-10 (52). Damien Helliwell (last seasons Leading Goal Kicker) added 6 to his account with support from Kerr (4), Brown (3) and Ashby (3). Dongara's form has improved, posting early goals in the first half and although they lost, kicked their highest score for the season so far. Bradley Ralph (Dongara) put in a solid performance booting 4 for the day.

In the closest game of the 2003 season, Carnamah/Perenjori fell over the line by 3-points defeating Three Springs 11-9 (75) to 10-12 (72) last Saturday. The spectators were treated to an intense display of football for four quarters. Multiple goal scorer for Carnamah/Perenjori, Les Sutherland (4) was kept in check by Matt Auld. Hayden Bussenschutt worked tirelessly from half back flank feeding the Three Springs mid-fielders and forward lines. New recuit for Carnamah/Perenjori Steve Simpson (2) had flashes of brilliance in his debut game.

Next week, all games will be held on Sunday, Carnamah/Perenjori play at Coorow; Three Springs travel to Morawa and Dongara will host Mingenew.
